Keynote Speaker: BOB BURKE

Lawyer, Author, Historian, Humanitarian

We are honored that our keynote speaker this year is attorney and author Bob Burke. Born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Burke practices constitutional law and writes books in Oklahoma City. He has written more historical non-fiction books (167) than anyone else in history, all about Oklahoma’s incredible history. Four have won the Oklahoma Book Award and four have been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Burke graduated with a journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma and a law degree from Oklahoma City University. As an attorney, Burke is a nationally recognized expert on workers’ compensation. In 2019, Burke served as Special Master in the nation’s first trial of a lawsuit against opioid manufacturers, State of Oklahoma v. Johnson and Johnson.

Burke’s community service is extensive. He has served on the governing boards of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Oklahoma Historical Society, Native American Cultural Center, Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence (founding member), the Jim Thorpe Association (founding member), Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame (founding member), Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, Kiamichi Owa-Chito (founding member), Friends of the Governor’s Mansion, Ford Center Oversight Committee (founding member), the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation, the Oklahoma Arts Council, the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society, Red Earth, and the Wiley Post Commission. He is Corporate Secretary of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and vice-chair of the Oklahoma Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Elections.

Burke coauthored the book Throwaway Kids: Reforming Oklahoma’s Juvenile Justice System. The book retells the history of the class action lawsuit filed in 1978 by Steven A. Novick against Lloyd Rader, the head of Oklahoma’s welfare agency and the most powerful man in the state. The class action lawsuit alleged an atrocious miscarriage of justice, including the horrific and unspeakable treatment of juveniles at six state institutions. These allegations shocked Oklahoma residents and leaders and led to improvements in the treatment of children in the care of the state.

Please join us and Bob Burke April 5, 2024, to celebrate the 17th Anniversary of Trinity Legal.
