Embraced by God
“Yesterday was a day I felt embraced by God and useful to Him. I consider my legal training and experience both a talent and a gift. What I do is a ministry (I help a lot of elderly and vulnerable people) and I was fully engaged yesterday in my ministry.
“Thank you for all you do to make it easy and for the support you show to me and to the other attorneys.
“Prayer time was another blessing. Just to see the depth and breadth of your ministry and to feel I had some small part in it was a source of inspiration and commitment for me. I will try and make prayer time each time I come.”
--Jim Lockhart, Esq., Local Attorney (Excerpt taken from a letter written to Trinity Legal after volunteering at Cross & Crown Mission)
A Time of Growth
“While many of my peers have spent their summer either attending summer school or researching in an office library, I have actually been sitting down in conferences with clients and interviewing them. Besides watching a variety of lawyers conduct interviews with clients, I have been encouraged to take part in the discussions asking questions and offering advice.
“In one day [volunteering with Trinity Legal], I heard about four cases. Within this group, there can be cases dealing with contract disputes, family law, criminal charges, torts, and immigration questions. There has been at least one case for every course reinforcing what I have learned this past year in law school.
“Most importantly, Trinity Legal has helped to provide me with focus. It is easy for me to be caught up in my present frustrations. I spend the majority of my time focusing on trying to finish the semester, not on what I am going to do following law school or even why I made the decision to be an attorney in the first place. My experience with the clinic reminds me of why I chose to become a lawyer… to serve Christ by helping others.”
